The author designed and implemented a social skills and human relationships training program for sex offenders in one of the special protection prisons in Queensland, Australia.
Abstract
The essential feature of the program was its flexibility, so that the individual needs of each inmate could be met as fully as possible. The design included evaluation procedures, which were applied to a group study. Six inmates took part in the program, which included training in basic and complex social skills and sexual relationships. The participants ranged in age from 26 to 49 years. Findings of the evaluation indicated the usefulness of the program, especially in terms of the acquisition of basic insights. Future programs should include assessments of the transfer of skills to the community setting. Tables and 43 references (Author abstract modified)
