EVALUATION OF SOCIO-THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT OF PRISONERS AND ITS INFLUENCE ON JUDICIAL DECISIONS IN WEST GERMANY.
Abstract
CURRENT DECISIONS OF THE SUPREME COURT OF WEST GERMANY CONSIDER THAT EXPERTS ARE NOT YET CAPABLE OF PREDICTING WHETHER A CONVICT WILL COMMIT NEW CRIMES AFTER RELEASE FROM PRISON, NOR IS THE FACT THAT THE PRISONER HAS TAKEN SOCIO-THERAPY IN ITSELF SUFFICIENT TO PERMIT HIS RELEASE. FURTHERMORE, THE FACT THAT A PRISONER HAS UNDERGONE TWO-THIRDS OF HIS SENTENCE AND THAT THERAPISTS GIVE A POSITIVE PROGNOSIS, CANNOT BE CONCLUSIVE FOR HIS RELEASE. AFTER DEALING WITH THE CURRENT SITUATION OF SOCIOTHERAPY, THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE FUNCTION OF THE SOCIO-THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT OF PRISONERS INCLUDING PERSPECTIVES OF TREATMENT OF PATHOLOGICAL PERSONALITY DISTURBANCES, SOCIAL TRAINING AND VARIOUS FRAMES OF REFERENCE FOR RESEARCH. IN THE LAST CHAPTER, WHICH DEALS WITH THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SOCIO-THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT OF PRISONERS, THE AUTHOR NOTES THAT AS THE QUALITY OF EVALUATIVE RESEARCH IMPROVES THE LIMITED EFFECT OF SOCIO-THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT IS REVEALED. --IN GERMAN
