Solicitor General of Canada - Annual Report, 1981

Length

Annotation
The report presents data on the number of police requests for and authorizations of electronic surveillance in Canada, specifying the number of criminal investigations and prosecutions that resulted during 1977-81.
Abstract
Police have used electronic surveillance to successfully conclude complex investigations and to bring to justice persons not likely to be apprehended without this method. Most authorizations and interceptions under Part IV.1 of the Criminal Code are for conspiracy to commit under Section 423 of the Code and for drug-related offenses under the Narcotic Control Act and Food and Drug Act. The targets are usually habitual criminals with organized crime connections. Several cases illustrate police use of electronic surveillance. --in English and French
