This article discusses psychological research on juvenile delinquents which was designed to find out the possible connection between juveniles' self-image and their asocial behavior.
Abstract
The research referred to the establishment of factors influencing the formation of juvenile delinquents' self-image and their asocial behavior. The self-image is more favorable than it is in reality and has a compensatory nature. There are four elements influencing such a self-image and are linked with asocial and especially, delinquent behavior. The first is too favorable an estimation of the juvenile's actual situation among people. Equally typical is a positive relation to oneself and low acceptance of oneself. Such an attitude towards oneself impedes possibilities for self-education and self-development. In addition, it unfavorably influences the process of socialization and resocialization. A diagram, tables, and six references are included. (Author abstract modified)
