This 15th anniversary edition of the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics published by the Bureau of Justice Statistics reflects the changing nature of criminal justice information and the growth of information technology.
Abstract
The sourcebook is organized according to six sections: (1) characteristics of the criminal justice system, such as number and type of criminal justice agencies and employees, criminal justice expenditures, and criminal justice agency workloads; (2) public attitudes toward crime and criminal justice-related topics, including public opinion polls on such matters as fear of victimization, death penalty, gun control, drug use, law enforcement, and judicial system performance; (3) nature and distribution of known offenses; (4) characteristics and distribution of persons arrested; (5) judicial processing of defendants; and (6) persons under correctional supervision, including persons on probation and parole, persons in local jails, inmate populations and movements in State and Federal prisons, and characteristics of State and Federal prison inmates. Appendixes provide explanatory remarks on the statistics. Tables and figures
