Abstract
In order to be included in the Sourcebook, data must be national in scope or of nationwide relevance, and they must be methodologically sound with respect to sampling procedures, collection methods, estimation procedures, and reliability. The book is divided into six sections: (1) Characteristics of criminal justice systems; (2) Public attitudes toward crime and criminal justice-related topics; (3) Nature and distribution of known offenses; (4) Characteristics and distribution of persons arrested; (5) Judicial processing of defendants; and (6) Persons under correctional supervision. Among the new topics included in this 27th edition of the Sourcebook are safety in schools, attitudes toward hate crimes, crimes against the elderly, intimate partner violence, alcohol-related problems on campuses, risk behaviors of students at alternative high schools, and veterans in prison.
