Abstract
The report indicates that the DOC continues to be affected by many factors, including a growing inmate population, staff shortages, and severe financial restraints. The report also covers the DOC's statutory authority, history, correctional institutions, personnel, programs, and inmate population. Significant developments in DOC operations during fiscal year 1993-1994 are noted. Appendixes contain supplemental information on the DOC, offense classification, South Carolina's Youthful Offender Act, supervised furlough, earned work credit, community programs, shock incarceration, and South Carolina counties comprising regional councils (planning districts) and judicial circuits. Tables and figures
