After describing the structure of the South Dakota judiciary, this Fiscal Year 2005 (July 1, 2004-June 30, 2005) Annual Report of the South Dakota Unified Judicial System provides information and data on the activities of each court, as well as personnel and financial information and data on civil, criminal, and court service caseloads.
Abstract
The report first provides information on the functions of the South Dakota Supreme Court, the seven Circuit Courts, and the seven Magistrate Courts. Data show the supreme court's caseload according to filings; combined filings; dispositions; combined dispositions; and pending cases for fiscal years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. Data tables also show clerk-magistrate staffing by circuit for fiscal year 2005 and staffing allocations by judicial circuit for fiscal year 2005. Regarding financial data, the full State budget is shown for fiscal year 2005, including the judicial branch; and a table shows clerk of court receipts and disbursements for fiscal year 2005. State fine receipts are shown and compared by county and circuit. Financial data also address expenditures for court-appointed attorneys.
