Abstract
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE ARE TO PROVIDE POLICE TRAINING FOR COMMUNITIES WHERE SUCH TRAINING IS UNAVAILABLE, TO AUGMENT EXISTING FACILITIES BY PROVIDING ADVANCED TRAINING FOR KEY OFFICERS IN LOCAL DEPARTMENTS, TO PROVIDE TRAINING RELATING TO THE SPECIAL PROBLEMS IN THE FIELD OF POLICING IN THE SOUTHEASTERN SECTION OF THE UNITED STATES, TO BROADEN THE PERSPECTIVE OF SUPERVISORY OFFICIALS BY SHARING OF EXPERIENCES AND ASSOCIATION WITH LEADERS IN WELL-MANAGED AND PROGRESSIVE DEPARTMENTS, TO ADVANCE POLICING METHODS BY ENLISTING THE AID OF SCIENTISTS AND EXPERTS IN MANY DISCIPLINES, ELEVATE POLICE STANDARDS AND INCREASED CONFIDENCE IN AND SUPPORT OF THE FIELD OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND TO MAINTAIN EFFICIENT LAW ENFORCEMENT WITHOUT INFRINGING ON THE BASIC GUARANTEED RIGHTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL. OTHER OBJECTIVES ARE DEVELOPMENT OF PUBLIC INTEREST IN THE MAINTENANCE OF A PROFESSIONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT, PROVISION OF INSTRUCTION OF AN ADVANCED NATURE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMAND, SUPERVISORY, AND ADMINISTRATIVE POLICE PERSONNEL.
