This is a project planning guide developed by the National Organization for Youth Safety (NOYS).
Abstract
This training document is developed by NOYS, the materials are part of the NOYS' school safety initiative. The guide reviews for school-based personnel methods to be used in developing youth-led projects that are designed for youth 5-to 24-years-old to encourage highway safety and to discourage youth alcohol or drug abuse. There are five goals of the NOYS project (1) To Empower: entrust, support and encourage youth leadership and involvement in activities and intitiatives that enhance safety; (2) To Communicate: NOYS will share information and ideas among youth serving organizations at the national, State, and local levels; (3) To Collaborate: NOYS will share resources, provide technical assistance and invite participation in individual members' activities to promote youth safety; (4) To Initiate: NOYS will support the design, implementation and evaluation of national youth safety events and activities, and (5) To Organize: NOYS will develop a volunteer structure to support the mission and goals of the organizations. The guide includes case studies of successful projects, leadership building exercises, a guide for performing a needs assessment prior to project selection, budget and management suggestions and sample project development forms.
