Seven articles describe police technology, particularly computer technology, in police operations management, investigations, training, car patrol, and the management of security and safety-related functions.
Abstract
The first article portrays the computerized management information system of the Hawthorne Police Department (California), including its crime analysis, regional resource sharing, microfilm interface, computer graphics, and results and future plans. The second article depicts the use of automated link analysis in investigations by the Internal Revenue Service; link analysis is the graphic portrayal of investigative data to facilitate the analysis of large amounts of data. Another article describes the use of computers in training by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, both as investigative tools and to assist in instructing about computer crime. Other articles focusing on computer uses in police work address the profiling of rape suspects, the maintenance of a police fleet, and the production of graphics to assist in managing and analyzing security and safety-related functions. An article also describes the Rocky Hill Police Department's (Connecticut) use of reflectorized vehicle markings to reduce police vehicular accidents and heighten the visible police presence.
