Abstract
The first article deals with the importance of lawfulness and reliability in child mental health policy. The second provides a brief overview of the historical development of juvenile and family mental health law and policy in the United States. The third article discusses the mental health considerations for the need of adolescent autonomy, while the fourth assesses the reasons for and implications of the recent movement towards punitive juvenile justice. The final two articles examine the growing reliance on inpatient healthcare facilities to treat troubled youth in the United States and the limits of mental health expertise in juvenile and family law.
