While most of the existing literature on students at risk and on dropouts focuses on adolescents and secondary schools, this special issue went beyond this spectrum, including articles dealing with elementary-aged children as well as students at the higher education end of the continuum.
Abstract
The articles in this issue were organized into three sections, the first section setting the stage by discussing definitional issues. The second section focuses on the general population of elementary and secondary students from a variety of perspectives, including school resources, school reform, and instructional efficacy. The final section focuses on three special populations of at-risk students, namely young black males, Hispanic students, and gifted and talented students. Chapter references
