These guidelines are intended to be consistent with the "Ethical Principles of Psychologists" and to provide more specific guidance to forensic psychologists in monitoring their professional conduct when acting to aid courts, parties to legal proceedings, correctional and forensic mental health facilities, and legislative agencies.
Abstract
The guidelines aim to improve the quality of forensic psychological services offered to individual clients and the legal system and thereby to enhance forensic psychology as a field of study and a profession. The guidelines represent a joint statement of the American Psychological Association and are endorsed by the American Academy of Forensic Psychology. The guidelines cover professional responsibilities, competence, relationships, confidentiality and privilege, methods of procedures, and public and professional communications.
