The specialized gang supervision program is designed to improve control and surveillance, ensure compliance with probation conditions, and reduce the incidence of violent acts among juvenile and young adult gang members under the jurisdiction of a probation officer.
Abstract
The program operates through 5 decentralized units in Los Angeles County, Calif., each of which supervises a maximum of 480 youthful gang-oriented offenders. Staff is provided with specialized training, and ongoing monitoring is conducted to assess the program's effectiveness. Duties of deputy probation officers under this program include supervision and provision of direct services, maintaining close communications with law enforcement agencies and schools and recreation centers, and expeditiously handling all probation violations.
