This manual presents the topics and objectives for eight, computer-aided training courses used with Florida law enforcement personnel.
Abstract
The profiled specialized training program has been designed to use criminal justice categories, topics, and objectives approved for training by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. Courses are to be developed using a "menu" concept to fulfill local training needs. The manual is divided into eight broad training categories: communication skills, crime prevention, health, high liability, investigations, legal issues, management/supervision, and science and technology. The communications skills category is designed to enhance an officer's ability to communicate effectively, and the crime prevention category is intended to enhance an officer's knowledge and skills regarding concepts relevant to crime prevention. Knowledge and skills regarding officer health are imparted in the health category, and the category on high liability is designed to instruct officers in knowledge and skills in high-liability areas (weapons use, defensive tactics, tactical situations, driving skills, and K-9 team training). Other categories are designed to increase officer knowledge and skills in investigations, legal issues bearing upon criminal justice functions, management capability, and scientific and technological concepts practiced in law enforcement. Subtopics within each of the categories are listed, and instructional objectives under each subtopic are outlined. A complete list of instructor courses is also provided.
