This reference work on the social, law enforcement, and justice response to domestic violence contains materials presented in a workshop on stopping spouse abuse along with annotated resource lists.
Abstract
The materials are arranged in eight topical sections: nature and extent of the problem, legislation, police, prosecutors, courts/probation, shelters/social services, offender services, and special issues such as funding, mediation, and marital rape. Each section provides reprints of articles or excerpts from journals, government publications, and books and a resource list of books, articles, training programs, manuals, and films. Examples of the materials are an overview of family violence, Ohio's new civil remedies for victims of domestic violence, a review of court decisions on wife abuse laws, outreach brochures for shelters, and an evaluation of a diversion and probation program with mandated counseling for batterers. Publication lists from the Center for Women Policy Studies and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence are included.
