THIS MANUAL WAS DEVELOPED FOR INSTRUCTION AND ACTUAL FIELD REPORTING OF POLICE CASES COMING TO THE ATTENTION OF OFFICERS IN THE SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT (MISSOURI).
Abstract
THE GUIDE IS DESIGNED TO INFORM THE USER OF THE INFORMATION NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE CRIME REPORT AND SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT FORMS SUCCESSFULLY. THE FORMS WERE DEVELOPED AS PART OF AN OVERALL UPGRADING OF RECORDS AND REPORTING FOR THE SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT THROUGH THE INTEGRATED CRIMINAL APPREHENSION PROGRAM (ICAP). THE MANUAL EXPLAINS THE PURPOSE OF THE REPORTS, PRESENTS DEFINITIONS OF OFFENSES, AND DETAILS ITEMS USUALLY REQUESTED IN MOST REPORTS. IT COVERS HOW INFORMATION ABOUT PERSONS AND PROPERTY SHOULD BE ENTERED ON THE REPORT FORMS AND EXPLAINS EXACTLY HOW THE FORMS SHOULD BE COMPLETED. SPECIFIC OFFENSES AND INCIDENTS ARE LISTED TOGETHER WITH THE APPROPRIATE FORM TO BE FILLED OUT ACCORDING TO SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PROCEDURES. THE GUIDE ALSO EXPLAINS THE RECORDS MANAGEMENT FLOW FOR BOTH THE CRIME REPORT AND THE SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT FORMS. ILLUSTRATIONS ARE PROVIDED. (PRG)
