Illinois standards and procedures for testing of breath, blood, and urine for alcohol and/or other drugs are presented.
Abstract
Any breath testing instrument to be approved must automatically display the test results visually to the arrested person and provide for an automatic printed test record. Procedures for breath alcohol analysis shall include the following requirements in conjunction with the testing of each subject: (1) continuous observation of the subject for at least 20 minutes prior to collection of breath specimen; (2) administration of only one breath analysis; (3) conduction of a room-air analysis before the breath analysis; and, (4) performance of each test according to the operational procedure approved by the Department of Transportation. The operator of a breath analysis instrument must be employed by a law enforcement agency or the Department and shall have a minimum of 34 hours of instruction. Each operator must be re-examined prior to relicensure by the Department. Grounds for revocation of a license include misuse of the instrument and dismissal of the operator from employing agency.
