SURVEY AND ASSESSMENT OF PROCEDURES FOR DETERRING BURGLARY, INCLUDING TECHNICAL STANDARDS FOR SECURITY DEVICES AND COST-EFFECTIVENESS COMPARISONS.
Abstract
THE GENERAL CLASSIFICATION OF SECURITY ITEMS INCLUDES PHYSICAL DETERRENTS SUCH AS LOCKS AND ALARMS, AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DETERRENTS AS LIGHTING. A COMBINATION OF THESE PREVENTIVE DEVICES IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE DETERRENT. STANDARDS, OR PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTIONS, COVER THE DESIGN, PRACTICABILITY, DURABILITY, UNIFORMITY, AND CONSTRUCTION OF DOORS AND WINDOWS, AND DOOR AND WINDOW LOCKS. MISCELLANEOUS POINTS OF ENTRY ARE ALSO CONSIDERED. ADDITIONAL MATERIAL INCLUDES A PARTIAL LISTING OF MANUFACTURERS AND DEALERS IN SECURITY HARDWARE, SAMPLES FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION DISSEMINATION, AND A DISCUSSION OF COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE EXPANSION.
