A BOOKLET WHICH PRESENTS DEFINITIONS OF PROBATION AND PAROLE, FUNCTIONS OF PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICERS, MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTERING PROBATION AND PAROLE WORK, METHODS OF SELECTION, AND SALARY RECOMMENDATIONS.
Abstract
THE FUNCTIONS OF THE PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER ARE OUTLINED, AND INCLUDE INVESTIGATIONS FOR COURTS, INSTITUTIONS, OR PAROLE AUTHORITIES, SUPERVISION OF PROBATIONERS AND PAROLEES, KNOWLEDGE AND USE OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES, AND PUBLIC RELATIONS IN INTERPRETING TO THE COMMUNITY THE WORK OF PROBATION AND PAROLE SERVICES. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PROBATION AND PAROLE WORKERS AND ADMINISTRATORS ARE LISTED. FACTORS OF PERSONALITY, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS ARE DISCUSSED. SELECTION METHODS BASED ON MERIT ARE RECOMMENDED, AND SALARY PLANS WHICH INCLUDE PERIODIC INCREASES AND PAY INCENTIVES FOR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH THROUGH EDUCATION ARE SUGGESTED. IT IS ALSO STATED THAT AN ADEQUATE RETIREMENT PLAN SHOULD BE PROVIDED FOR ALL PERSONNEL.
