These standards of practice are designed to provide guidance to child welfare agencies and other agencies that serve families regarding three services that should be part of any system for strengthening and preserving families with children.
Abstract
These include family resource, support, and education services for a wide range of families; family-centered casework services for families with more severe needs; and family-centered crisis services for families in crisis. The standards are designed to be used by agencies in a variety of settings and auspices. The discussion covers the purpose and use of the standards, the differences between standards and licensing regulations, the goals of the standards, and the role of community advisory boards and parents in program design. It also defines specific services, including informal support, parent education, peer support groups and counseling, recreation services, early developmental screening, child day care services, home visits, referrals, education and job skill development, and specialized services for adolescent parents. In addition, the standards cover staff qualifications, training, supervision and support, service evaluation, case management, client tracking, organization, and finance. Index and 50 references.
