These drawings, tables, and accompanying test are designed to describe the differences between the second and third editions of the American Correctional Association's (ACA) standards for adult correctional institutions, illustrate the design implications of both sets of standards, and portray the range of practice that might be possible under the old and new standards.
Abstract
The document represents the first step in a research effort that will examine the cost implications of the physical plant standards in ACA's third edition of January 1990. Correctional practitioners, designers, researchers, and others interested in standards are invited to critically review and discuss the document and return it with their comments. Changes presented in the third edition and in these drawings relate to facility size, unit size, inmate housing, dayrooms, natural light, toilets, wash basins, showers, special management housing, exercise and recreation, dining, and staff areas
