This document discusses local strategies to help build strong families.
Abstract
The document emphasizes the many strong linkages between support for families and the prevention of delinquency in youth and crime in the community. It defines and describes ways in which many different community and local government resources can contribute to family support and related crime prevention goals of a locality. It also provides local decision makers with tested approaches from which they can draw insight into how they can make a difference on such a complex issue. It emphasizes prevention-oriented tactics and techniques, pointing out the potential for even greater impact if these techniques are implemented within the context of a comprehensive approach. The examples cited also include some intervention and enforcement strategies, recognizing that those approaches are often needed by families in economic, health, abuse-related or other crises. Tables
