THE VIRGINIA STATE AGENCY COMPENDIUM LISTS RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO LOCALITIES THROUGH STATE AGENCIES IN ORDER TO FACILITATE PUBLIC ACCESS TO INFORMATION RELATING TO CRIME PREVENTION AND CRIME.
Abstract
THE COMPENDIUM IS PART OF THE URBAN ANALYSIS APPROACH TO COLLECTING INFORMATION ABOUT CRIME AND OTHER LOCAL PROBLEMS. A CROSS-INDEX IS PROVIDED TO MAKE THE COMPENDIUM USEFUL FOR A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT PURPOSES. THE FIRST SECTION ON MISSION STATEMENTS AND PEOPLE OR UNITS SERVED DEFINES THE OBJECTIVES AND POTENTIAL SERVICE RECEIVERS OF THE CONTRACTED AGENCIES AND THEIR DEPARTMENTS. THE SECTION RELATES SPECIFICALLY TO SERVICE PROVIDERS, NOT TO AGENCIES PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH DATA COLLECTION. THE NEXT SECTION CATALOGS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER THE DEPARTMENTS AND THE SERVICES WHICH THEY OFFER. THE THIRD SECTION LISTS SERVICES BY CATEGORY, SO THAT THE USERS WHO KNOW WHAT KIND OF SERVICES THEY NEED BUT NOT WHERE TO FIND THEM CAN EASILY LOCATE THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENTS. THE FINAL TWO SECTIONS CONCERN DATA RESOURCES. ONE LISTS DEPARTMENTS WITH THE DATA THEY PRODUCE, AND THE OTHER CATALOGS DATA BY CATEGORY, INDICATING WHICH DEPARTMENT CAN PROVIDE DATA OF A PARTICULAR TYPE. APPENDIXES DESCRIBE THE METHOD USED IN COMPILING THE COMPENDIUM AND SUPPLY THE NAMES OF OTHER POSSIBLE CONTACT AND REFERENCE SOURCES AS WELL AS PUBLICATIONS WITH SIMILAR INFORMATION.
