Under the Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Formula Grant Program, Georgia received approximately $10.5 million in fiscal year 1993 for several criminal justice projects to apprehend, prosecute, adjudicate, detain, supervise, and rehabilitate violent and drug offenders.
Abstract
These funds were administered by Georgia's Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC). Specific projects undertaken by the CJCC focused on multijurisdictional task forces, public housing and urban drug enforcement, drug and violent crime prevention and education, court delay reduction, offender treatment, drug enforcement training, forensic service upgrades, narcotics information and intelligence, and criminal justice records improvement. The priority areas were multijurisdictional task forces, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) projects, and State level projects. Projects funded under the Formula Grant Program are summarized and evaluated.
