This is the report of the Office of the Hawaii Ombudsman for fiscal year 1998-1999.
Abstract
The Office received about the same number of complaints as the year before (6,991). Approximately 72 percent may be classified as complaints within the Office’s jurisdiction. The remainder consisted of 1,702 requests for information and 282 nonjurisdictional complaints. There was a sizeable drop in the number of prison-related complaints and an equally large increase in the number of complaints against the Child Support Enforcement Agency. The Year in Brief describes: (1) The Office Workload (including a 2-year caseload comparison); (2) Staff Turnover; (3) Case Management; (4) Department of Public Safety Complaints; (5) Child Support Enforcement Agency; (6) Y2K Compliance; and (7) United States Ombudsman Association. Statistical tables present data in 11 different categories. Selected case summaries are listed under the State government department or the county government involved in the complaint or inquiry.
