This 1979 annual report of Maryland's Juvenile Services Administration (JSA) summarizes activities and provides State and county statistical data for juvenile courts, community services, and juvenile institutions.
Abstract
An organization chart and glossary begin the report, followed by a flow chart of case referrals for fiscal 1979. Tables illustrate budget expenditures by major program for 1970 through 1979. Summaries of juvenile court services and statistical tables cover methods of handling, sources of referral, disposition, case rates, type of offense, reasons for referral, and characteristics of offenders. Statistics on total juvenile cases from 1971 to 1979 are also presented for each county. Maryland's community-based services include placements purchased in private facilities, a therapeutic residence for girls, State-owned group homes, a residence for boys 12 years or younger, a day program for delinquents, youth services bureaus, runaway homes, and diversion programs in Baltimore. Statistical summaries on placements and expenditures for 1970 to 1979 for each facility are followed by information on 1979 placements according to county, program, age, race, and sex. State correctional institutions for juveniles, including detention centers, are described. Tables summarize admissions and expenditures for the 1970-1979 period and provide detailed data for each county on admissions and characteristics of juveniles committed to institutional care. Average lengths of stay in institutions are also provided. The final table lists Federal grants in operation during 1979.
