This is the Maryland Department of State Police Annual Report for 1995.
Abstract
In 1995, Maryland troopers issued 23.7 percent more traffic enforcement citations than the previous year. There was an increase in all categories of violations; the largest increase was for speeding and seatbelt violations. Drug interdiction during traffic enforcement stops continued, as reflected in the drug-related arrests on Interstate 95, Route 81 through Washington County, Route 13 in Wicomico County, and Interstates 495 and 270 in Montgomery County. The Department established a focus group to adapt community oriented policing to the State Police. The Department initiated "Operation Cease Fire" to reduce the availability of firearms to the criminal element, and established the Firearms Investigation Unit within the Criminal Investigation Division to focus on the illegal sale, transportation, possession and use of firearms. The report contains statistical data and additional examples of the accomplishments of the patrol, investigative, drug enforcement and service units.
