This is the annual report of the judicial system of Missouri for fiscal year 2002, ending June 30, 2002.
Abstract
The Missouri judiciary undertook many improvements to its system during fiscal year 2002, despite budgetary constraints. Among the highlighted changes are the improved courthouse security and handicapped access, a court automation program designed to manage court cases and make court information more readily accessible, and continued implementation of case processing standards to promote timely disposition of litigation. The Missouri judiciary also assumed major funding responsibilities for the State’s drug courts. Other accomplishments include a traveling Court of Appeals. During fiscal year 2002, the Court of Appeals took its oral arguments on the road to hear cases in different venues throughout Missouri. Also, a new judge was appointed to the Court of Appeals and the circuit courts began using digital sound recording equipment. The Fine Collection Center had a good year, with approximately $6.8 million collected in fines during the year. The report also details how the judiciary is developing and implementing new types of problem-solving courts that use a variety of methods to curb an offender’s self-destructive and costly behavior. During fiscal year 2002, the Missouri court system also actively promoted the use of alternative dispute resolution, especially for family law-related matters. The report also shows how the judiciary continues to educate court personnel and to make technological improvements to better facilitate educational programs. Finally, tables are displayed that detail the Missouri Judiciary State Revenue and Expenses and the Judiciary Summary Case Information. The final page presents the organization of the Missouri courts.
