CASE STUDIES OF FOUR STATES' MUNICIPAL LEAGUES THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING TO COORDINATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING AT THE LOCAL LEVEL.
Abstract
INVOLVEMENT OF STATE MUNICIAPL LEAGUES IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE VARIES GREATLY IN FORMAT, FOCUS AND METHODOLOGY. THE FOUR CASE STUDIES PRESENTED HERE GIVE EXAMPLES OF THE DIFFERENT CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACTIVITIES WITHIN STATE MUNICIPAL LEAGUES: DIRECT INVOLVEMENT IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING AND LEGISLATION, IN ARIZONA; DEVELOPMENT OF A STATEWIDE SYSTEM OF MUNICIPAL POLICE TRAINING AND STANDARDS, IN MAINE; AN EFFORT ON THE PART OF THE MISSOURI LEAGUE TO MONITOR AND 'WATCH-DOG' ITS STATE PLANNING AGENCY'S ACTIVITIES; AND A MASSIVE SURVEY OF LAW ENFORCEMENT CAPABILITIES IN VERMONT, UNDERTAKEN BY THAT STATE'S LEAGUE OF CITIES AND TOWNS.
