Abstract
The number of offenses reported to law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma decreased by .7 percent over the number of offenses reported in 1975. Violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) decreased by 4.3 percent, while the nonviolent crimes (breaking and entering, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) decreased .4 percent statewide. Larceny-theft was the largest category of Index crime reported in 1976 and showed an increase of 9.9 percent over 1975. However, the number of murders in 1976 decreased 28.9 percent over 1975. Tables, charts, and graphs illustrate the offense data. Such crime information provided includes the Oklahoma Index Crime Analysis by type of crime, the type and value of property stolen and recovered, arrest data for juveniles and adults, the number of law enforcement officers killed or assaulted, and the Oklahoma Crime Index offenses by contributor and county. A table showing the history of contributor participation is included. An appendix includes an explanation of possible shortcomings of the data as presented, law enforcement employee data, and a glossary of terms.
