The New Jersey State Police Review Team looked at the structure of the State Police, reviewed hiring and promotional practices and workplace issues, and assessed police internal affairs and discipline procedures.
Abstract
The review found the State Police Division generally performed admirably in pursuing its law enforcement mandates but appeared to have done so in a manner that undermined public support. In examining recruitment, selection, and promotion practices within the State Police Division, the review resulted in a series of recommendations to acknowledge diversity in hiring and promotion and to improve working conditions. The review of police internal affairs and discipline looked at the police organizational structure and chain of command, complaint investigation, disciplinary procedures, and internal affairs records, and made appropriate recommendations for improvement.
