This report presents statistics and information on the significant changes that have occurred in Rhode Island's judicial system during calendar year 1994.
Abstract
A section on court structure describes Rhode Island's unified court system and presents information on judicial budget comparisons. An overview of 1994 achievements in the courts focuses on the Domestic Abuse Victim Advocacy Program, crime victim compensation, the Violent Crimes Indemnity Fund, and the State Court Victim Services Unit. Other sections of the report provide information and data on the State Supreme Court, Superior Court, Family Court, District Court, Workers' Compensation Court, Administrative Adjudication Court, and boards and panels. As in prior years, the members of the judiciary processed a record number of cases. Taking into account all courts, more than 200,000 cases were considered and processed by the Rhode Island judicial system. Significant efforts have been made to advance important remedial work, including the recently formed User Friendly Committee, which is designed to make all courts more friendly to litigants, members of the bar, and witnesses. Appended judicial roster, court directory, and statistics on each court's criminal and civil caseflow.
