This statement describes progress made by the National Drug Policy Board in implementing the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986.
Abstract
Efforts made by Executive Branch agencies in combating drug abuse are outlined. These include international programs aimed at eradication, drug law enforcement, and decreasing the production and trafficking of drugs. Resource and program commitments by various Federal agencies are summarized, and descriptions of several antidrug operations are provided. The Board's development of a national and international drug law enforcement strategy is noted, and the role of the Anti-Drug Abuse Act in facilitating this strategy is discussed. Progress in implementing the Act's key provisions is described. These include the criminal, forfeiture, eradication, interdiction, and deportation provisions.
