These statistics cover the activities and operations of the Los Angeles Police Department for the calendar year 1997.
Abstract
A section on "General Comparisons" presents data on population, size, and police cost; crime, arrest, and traffic- offense rates per 1,000 population by police district for 1996 and 1997; and Part I crimes and attempts reported by the FBI for 1997. A summary of Part I offenses shows that 206,257 Part I offenses were known to the Los Angeles Police Department in 1997. Data are presented for the following offenses: homicides, forcible rapes and attempts, aggravated assaults, robberies and attempts, burglaries and attempts, larcenies and attempts, vehicle thefts and recoveries, worthless documents, and arson. The number of law enforcement officers killed or assaulted is also reported. Adult arrests are presented by location and type of offense; month and type of offense; age, sex, and type of offense; by police district; and dispositions. Similar data are provided for juveniles arrests. Data on traffic accidents and enforcement present accidents by month and location, injury by month and location, fatalities by month and location, and property damage by month and location. Data on traffic citations are presented by police district. Other data address telephone calls received and units dispatched. Data on police personnel and equipment encompass civilian personnel by location of assignment and classification; sworn personnel by age, years of service, years in present rank, and location of assignment; increases/decreases in personnel are also shown. Personnel leave, work, overtime, and compensation data are also presented, along with training curricula and data on automotive equipment. Extensive tables and graphs
