DATA REVEAL THAT LOWERING THE STATUTORY LEGAL LIMIT FOR DRUNK DRIVING FROM 0.15 PERCENT TO 0.10 PERCENT MAY INCREASE THE PROPORTION OF ARRESTS OF LESS-DRUNK DRIVERS.
Abstract
THE NUMBER OF ARRESTS OF LESS-DRUNK DRIVERS (THOSE WITH ALCOHOL BLOOD CONCENTRATION LESS THAN 0.14 PERCENT IN STATES WITH A 0.10 PERCENT LEGAL LIMIT WAS COMPARED WITH SIMILAR ARREST IN STATES WITH A 0.15 PERCENT LEGAL LIMIT. ANALYSES OF THE DATA REVEAL THAT A CORRELATION EXISTS BETWEEN LOWER LEGAL LIMITS AND A GREATER PROPORTION OF LESS-DRUNK DRIVERS ARRESTED. CHARTS AND TABLES ARE INCLUDED.
