This annual report provides intake statistics for the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services for fiscal year 1992
Abstract
Data were obtained from the Department's on-line, real- time relational database for tracking and management. Intake officers can take one of the following four courses of action, depending on the case circumstances: disapprove the filing of a petition, close the case at intake, pursue a period of informal supervision, or authorize the filing of a formal petition by the State's Attorney. If charges are sustained and the youth is found delinquent, possible court dispositions include probation and commitment for placement, either in the community or in an institutional setting. The Department provides a variety of programming for committed youths, ranging from family foster homes and community residences to youth camps and secure training schools. 16 tables and 9 figures
