Detailed statistics are provided on cases commenced, terminated, and pending for U.S. Courts of Appeals, U.S. District Courts, and U.S. Bankruptcy Courts and on the Federal probation system and pretrial services in U.S. District Courts for the 12-month period ending September 30, 1992.
Abstract
The statistics reflect median time intervals, cases terminated on merits, and nature of suit or offense for U.S. Courts of Appeals. For U.S. District Courts, the statistics cover both civil and criminal cases and characterize civil cases by jurisdiction and nature of suit or offense and criminal cases by defendants and major offenses. Data on the Federal probation system covers persons received for and removed from supervision, persons under supervision as of September 30 and by offense, probationers received from judges for supervision by length of term, and persons removed from supervision with and without violation. The statistics also reflect business and nonbusiness cases before U.S. Bankruptcy Courts and pretrial service cases before U.S. District Courts under the Pretrial Services Act.
