Abstract
TO HELP CLARIFY CONCEPTS WHICH HE SAYS ARE OFTEN UNCLEAR, THE AUTHOR SPELLS OUT A NUMBER OF IMPORTANT DISTINCTIONS IN BOTH THE NATURE AND USE OF CRIME DATA. HE CLASSIFIES THE VARIOUS TYPES OF STATISTICAL DATA THAT ARE AVAILABLE, AND SUGGESTS SOME MODES OF CLASSIFYING OFFENSES. HE ALSO DISCUSSES THE NATURE OF HIDDEN DELINQUENCY AND THE FACTORS THAT AFFECT IT. HE CONSIDERS THE VARIOUS SOURCES OF CRIME DATA AND THE NEED FOR FINDING UNIFORM WAYS OF REPORTING THEM. HE PROPOSES A NUMBER OF POSSIBLE MEANS OF CONSTRUCTING INDICES OF CRIME, AND STRESSES THE NEED FOR STUDYING THE NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VICTIMS' CRIMINAL OFFENSES. --IN SPANISH
