These tables supplement the annual bulletin on drug seizures and offenders in 1989; the statistics in this bulletin relate to the misuse of drugs controlled under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act.
Abstract
Two major changes occurred in the 1989 data collection: customs and excise data were tabulated in aggregate form rather than as individual seizure and offender records and Metropolitan Police seizures combined those analyzed by the Metropolitan Forensic Science Laboratory as well as the usual statistical branch forms. The seizure tables relate to the seizures of controlled drugs by police force areas and other organizations, the rates of seizures by police force area, type of drugs, and type of seizure. The tables dealing with offenders contain data on conviction and cautioning rates by police force area and other organization, type of drug involved in convictions and cautions, offense classification, and sentence or order. 13 tables
