Data pertain to detentions under the 1984 and 1989 British Prevention of Terrorism Acts.
Abstract
The British Prevention of Terrorism Act of 1984 replaced the 1976 Act. It extended the special powers of arrest and detention to international terrorists and authorized the Secretary of State to make more than one extension of detention, not to exceed 5 days. The Prevention of Terrorism Act 1989 provided for the repeal and re-enactment of the 1984 Act. Data cover terrorist detentions and extensions and the number of charged offenses for each year from January 1, 1979 to December 31, 1989. 11 tables.
