The primary purpose of the STOP (Services-Training- Officers-Prosecutors) Violence Against Indian Women Discretionary Grants Program is to reduce violent crimes against Indian women.
Abstract
The program provides Federal financial assistance to recognized Indian tribal governments to develop and strengthen the response of tribal justice systems to violence committed against Indian women. The program encourages tribal governments to develop and implement effective strategies that address their unique circumstances in preventing and responding to violent crimes against Indian women and to develop and enhance services to Indian women who are victimized by violent crimes. The mandatory grant allocation formula for the program is described, and purposes for which tribal governments may use grant funds are identified. Details are provided on the application and award process, post-award requirements, and budget and administrative requirements. Appendixes contain the standard grant application form, a certificate of compliance with statutory eligibility requirements of the Violence Against Women Act for tribal governments, assurances, a budget detail worksheet, State points of contact, and definitions applicable to the program.
