SERIES OF ACTION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PREVENTING AND REDUCING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND A SUMMARY OF EXISTING PROGRAMS, NEEDS FOR ASSISTANCE, SUCCESS PATTERNS, AND INFORMATION ON PREVENTION IN COMMUNITIES AND SCHOOLS.
Abstract
ACTION RECOMMENDATIONS APPEAR FOR THREE SELECTED AREAS: DELINQUENCY IN THE SCHOOLS, ACADEMIC AND UNIVERSITY CONTRIBUTIONS, AND COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVES TO FUNCTIONING OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. IN EACH CASE THESE ARE WORKSHOP CONTRIBUTIONS WHICH ARE ACCOMPANIED BY SOME BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF RATIONALE AND EXAMPLES. THE REPORT IS DESIGNED TO PRESENT RECOMMENDATIONS THAT CAN BE INITIATED THROUGH THE CURRENT L.E.A.A. MANDATE, OR IMPLEMENTED THROUGH COOPERATIVE EFFORTS WITH OTHER AGENCIES. SPECIFIC SUGGESTIONS ARE ALSO MADE FOR REDEFINING THE MANDATES OF L.E.A.A. OR OTHER AGENCIES TO MAKE THEM MORE RESPONSIVE AND CONTRIBUTORY TO PREVENTION NEEDS. A LIST OF AGENCIES AND SCHOOLS WITH ON-GOING PHASE 3-TYPE PREVENTION ACTIVITIES IS APPENDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
