AN OVERALL DESCRIPTION OF THE 13 STATE ATTORNEY'S OFFICES STUDIED FOR THIS PROJECT, WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT AND A PLAN OF ACTION SUGGESTED TO THE ILLINOIS STATE'S ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION.
Abstract
THE OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF THE STUDY AND THE METHODS USED ARE FIRST DESCRIBED. AMONG THESE METHODS WERE PERSONAL INTERVIEWS, OBSERVATIONS OF ONGOING WORK IN OFFICES AND COURTROOMS, RESEARCH OF RELEVANT ILLINOIS STATUTES, AND COMPARATIVE OBSERVATIONS OF PROSECUTOR'S OFFICES IN SEVERAL OTHER STATES. OBSERVATIONS, OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT AND RELATED RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GIVEN FOR EACH SUBJECT OF INVESTIGATION. THE CATEGORIES INCLUDED ARE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEYS OFFICES, MISSION AND ROLE OF THE OFFICE OF STATE'S ATTORNEY, RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER AGENCIES, ORGANIZATION AND STAFFING, MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS, PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT, PHYSICAL FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT, AND THE ROLE OF THE ILLINOIS STATE'S ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION.
