The methods by which Canadian police investigate criminal offenses are examined, with the conclusion that individual investigative discretion is the hallmark of the process.
Abstract
It is argued that this discretion, particularly in the context of investigative interviewing, could be improved with the provision of a guiding structure. A set of guidelines and recommendations are presented to provide an initial framework for further analysis. (Author abstract)
