This manual is intended to guide elementary school personnel in the implementation of a schoolwide peer mediation program and is intended to be used with a classroom curriculum from the same publisher for grades 4-6.
Abstract
The program trains staff and students, as well as parents if possible, as mediators who act as third-party neutrals to help resolve disputes that arise in the school setting. The program has three components. The teacher modeling component involves the training of teachers and other staff to use conflict resolution skills, including mediation and negotiation, for student disputes. The curriculum component assists all elementary students in taking part in the development of conflict resolution skills. The student mediator component involves the training of selected staff and students in the mediation process. The manual details the nine steps involved in developing and implementing a mediation program and presents a training outline and 26 activities for students. Appended lists of reference materials and national organizations and agencies that can serve as resources
