A DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL IN-FIGHTING AND IDEOLOGICAL AMBIVALENCE THAT TOOK PLACE WITHIN THE SDS (STUDENTS FOR A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY) PRIOR TO THEIR VIETNAM PROTEST MARCH ON WASHINGTON, D.C.
Abstract
THE BIGGEST HURDLE WAS THE QUESTION OF ALLOWING OTHER GROUPS TO CO-SPONSOR THE PROPOSED MARCH. THE USE OF PRESSURE POLITICS FROM WITHIN THE SDS TO DISALLOW COSPONSORSHIP IS COMPARED TO THE STRATEGIES EMPLOYED AGAINST THE MISSISSIPPI FREEDOM DEMOCRATIC PARTY BY THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY AT ITS CONVENTION IN ATLANTIC CITY IN 1972.
