STUDY OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GROUP HOME PLACEMENTS FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENTS IN THE TORONTO AREA.
Abstract
THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT GROUP HOMES MAY BE BENEFICIAL IN THE CONTROL OF DELINQUENT BEHAVIOUR, PROVIDED THAT THE PLACEMENT LASTS LONGER THAN SIX MONTHS. THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE OUTCOME ADOLESCENTS DID NOT DIFFER IN TERMS OF NUMBER AND NATURE OF CHARGES, OR IN AN AGE AT PLACEMENT. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE IN PARENTAL ATTITUDE TOWARD THE CHILD AND THE PLACEMENT. WHERE THAT ATTITUDE WAS POSITIVE AND SUPPORTIVE, THE OUTCOME WAS GENERALLY POSITIVE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
