Criminal justice researchers have not been strongly committed to participant/observation styles of research among drug distribution systems.
Abstract
One reason is that they do not know how to initiate such a project. Another is that academic researchers concerned with violent and seriously illegal deviant groups understandably feel that there are such tremendous differences between themselves and their target populations that it is manifestly impossible to mix in a methodologically sufficient manner. This article indicates that these barriers may not be as formidable as they first appear. The information delivered on how such a methodology was conceived and implemented may prove valuable to someone contemplating or engaged in similar work with criminally deviant subjects. 27 references.
